ا ف لʾ-f-l

(ن) أَفَلَ يَأْفُلُ أُفُوْلًاafala yaʾfulu ufūlan: to set, to disappear, to vanish from sight — especially of stars, the moon and the sun. The rhetorical importance of this root is that Abraham, peace be upon him, made this very word the basis of his denial of godhood: whatever sets cannot be a Lord.

آفِلِيْنāfilīn (active participle (ism fāʿil)): that which sets. Four times in the Quran: three times as a verb and once as an active participle.
