(ض) قَسَرَ يَقْسِرُ قَسْرًاqasara yaqsiru qasran: to coerce, to subdue by force.
قَسْوَرَةqaswarah: lion, beast of prey — the lexicographers hold two views: (1) it is from this root and the wāw is redundant (zāʾidah), meaning that which overpowers by force; (2) some have taken it in the sense of a hunter and archer, and from this arise the two views of the exegetes. Only once in the Quran: ﴿كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنْفِرَةٌ فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ﴾ (Al-Muddaththir 74:50–51).
