م ع نm-ʿ-n
(ف) مَعَنَ يَمْعَنُ مَعْنًاmaʿana yamʿanu maʿnan: (of water) to flow and be readily available.
مَاعُوْنmāʿūn: the exegetes hold three views: (1) everyday utensils and small household items that neighbours borrow from one another; (2) zakāh; (3) any small thing of benefit. The basic sense of the word, «something readily available», links all three views. Only once in the Quran, and from it the surah takes its name: ﴿وَيَمْنَعُوْنَ الْمَاعُوْنَ﴾ (Al-Māʿūn 107:7).
