خ ض عkh-ḍ-ʿ

(ف) خَضَعَ يَخْضَعُ خُضُوْعًاkhaḍaʿa yakhḍaʿu khuḍūʿan: to bow down, to adopt humility, to submit. The lexicographers distinguish between خُضُوْعkhuḍūʿ and خُشُوْعkhushūʿ thus: khuḍūʿ relates mostly to the body, khushūʿ to the heart. ﴿فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ﴾ (Al-Aḥzāb 33:32). Note: the verb form (bāb) is determined from the Quranic form «تَخْضَعْنَtakhḍaʿna». This root occurs twice in the Quran.

خَاضِعkhāḍiʿ pl. خٰضِعِيْنkhāḍiʿīn (active participle, ism fāʿil): one who bows down. ﴿فَظَلَّتْ اَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خٰضِعِيْنَ﴾ (Ash-Shuʿarāʾ 26:4)
