خ د دkh-d-d

(ن) خَدَدَ يَخْدُدُkhadada yakhdudu (original form) ⟵ خَدَّ يَخُدُّ خَدًّاkhadda yakhuddu khaddan: to dig a long channel or trench in the ground.

خَدّkhadd pl. خُدُوْدkhudūd: cheek (because a line-like furrow forms on it).

اَخَادِيْدakhādīd: long deep pit, trench — hence the episode of «aṣḥāb al-ukhdūd». This root occurs twice in the Quran.
