— جِبْتjibt: anything worshipped besides Allah; an idol, a soothsayer, sorcery. Most of the lexicographers hold it to be of non-Arabic origin and say it has no derivation in Arabic; some have said it is altered from "جِبْسjibs". Only once in the Quran: ﴿يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْجِبْتِ وَالطَّاغُوْتِ﴾ (An-Nisāʾ 4:51)
