ح س مḥ-s-m
(ض) حَسَمَ يَحْسِمُ حَسْمًاḥasama yaḥsimu ḥasman: to cut off and finish, to wipe out at the root; also to cauterise a wound to close it.
حُسُوْمḥusūm (plural or verbal noun): successive, continuous — i.e. days that cut off and finish. The exegetes have given both interpretations: continuous, and ill-omened and cutting off. Only once in the Quran: ﴿سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَّثَمٰنِيَةَ اَيَّامٍ حُسُوْمًا﴾ (Al-Ḥāqqah 69:7)
