ف ت لf-t-l

(ض) فَتَلَ يَفْتِلُ فَتْلًاfatala yaftilu fatlan: to twist a rope. (This verb is not used in the Quran.)

فَتِيْلٌfatīl (on the pattern of فَعِيْلٌfaʿīl, in the sense of a passive participle (ism mafʿūl)): a fine twisted strand, a thread; hence the fine thread in the cleft of a date-stone, that is, a thing of utter insignificance. ﴿وَلَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ فَتِيْلًا﴾ (An-Nisāʾ 4:49)
