ب ط أb-ṭ-ʾ
(ک) بَطُؤَ يَبْطُؤُ بُطْئًا وَبِطَاءًbaṭuʾa yabṭuʾu buṭʾan wa-biṭāʾan: to be slow, to delay.
Form II (tafʿīl) بَطَّأَ يُبَطِّئُ تَبْطِيْئًاbaṭṭaʾa yubaṭṭiʾu tabṭīʾan: (1) deliberately to delay; (2) to make others slow, to hold them back. Only once in the Quran, in form tafʿīl — i.e. one who will surely make others lag behind (or will himself lag behind): ﴿وَإِنَّ مِنْكُمْ لَمَنْ لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ﴾ (An-Nisāʾ 4:72)
