ا ل تʾ-l-t
(ض) أَلَتَ يَأْلِتُ أَلْتًاal-ata yaʾlitu al-tan: to diminish someone's due, to reduce. Synonymous roots: w t r and n q ṣ. This root occurs only once in the Quran, as a verb: ﴿وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِّنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِّنْ شَيْءٍ﴾ (Aṭ-Ṭūr 52:21) — that is, We did not diminish anything of their deeds.Note: the word "لَا يَلِتْكُمْlā yalitkum" in Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt (49:14) carries the same meaning, and its ʿayn carrying kasrah supports the same verb form (bāb), ḍaraba.
