Arabic Grammar Revision 056 Fi'l Amar wa Nahi 02 لام امر و لائے نہی · 5:10 · 2026-05-10 · Watch on YouTube

This lesson builds upon the previous discussion of Fi'l Amar (Commands) and Fi'l Nahi (Prohibitions). While the previous lesson focused on direct, 2nd-person (Hazir) commands, this session introduces how to form commands and prohibitions for the 3rd-person (Ghaib) using Lam-e-Amar (لام امر) and Laa-e-Nahi (لائے نہی).

Key Grammatical Concepts Explained:

Fi'l Nahi for Hazir (Review): A quick review of placing Jazam on the Mudari verb using "La" (e.g., La Tadrib - "You do not hit"). The instructor specifically notes a key Sarf rule: the Noon of feminine plural (Noon Niswa in La Tadribna) does not drop, unlike the Noon E'rabi [00:27].

Fi'l Nahi for Ghaib (3rd Person Prohibition): Applying "La" to the 3rd person (e.g., La Yadrib) changes the meaning to "He should not hit" (چاہیے کہ وہ نہ مارے) [00:41].

Lam-e-Amar (3rd Person Command): To issue a command to a 3rd person, the letter Lam with a Kasra (لِ) is attached to the Mudari verb, giving it a Jazam (e.g., Liyadrib - "He should hit") [00:53].

Phonetic Rule of Lam-e-Amar: When Lam-e-Amar is preceded by a conjunction like Fa (فَ) or Waw (وَ), its vowel drops and it takes a Jazam/Sukoon. For example, Li-Ya'budu becomes Fal-Ya'budu (فَلْيَعْبُدُوا) [01:39].

Interactive Quranic Practice: The rest of the video analyzes Quranic verses to identify these forms:

Falyabudu (فَلْيَعْبُدُوا) - Lam-e-Amar [01:39]

Iqra (اقرأ) - Direct Amar [02:11]

Faltaqum (فَلْتَقُمْ) - Lam-e-Amar for feminine/group [02:31]

Allama (عَلَّمَ) - Identified correctly as past tense (Maazi), not Amar [03:10]

Kuli washrabi waqarri (كلي واشربي وقري) - Feminine direct commands addressed to Maryam (AS) [03:51]

Falyastajeebu li walyu'minu bi (فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي) - Lam-e-Amar [04:19]

Wala yahzunka (وَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ) - Laa-e-Nahi for 3rd person [04:48]

Description:
Welcome to Lesson 056 of our Arabic Grammar Revision series! 📖✨

In our previous lesson, we learned how to make direct 2nd-person commands. Today, we advance our syntax (Nahw) and morphological (Sarf) studies by learning how to issue commands and prohibitions to the 3rd person (Ghaib) and 1st person (Mutakallim).

We explore the use of Lam-e-Amar (لام امر) to say "he should do..." and Laa-e-Nahi (لائے نہی) to say "he should not do...". This lesson also covers essential phonetic rules, such as what happens to Lam-e-Amar when preceded by 'Fa' or 'Waw', alongside a deep dive into practical Quranic examples.

What you will learn in this lesson:
✅ Review of Fi'l Nahi and the rule of Noon Niswa.
✅ Forming 3rd Person Prohibitions (Laa-e-Nahi for Ghaib).
✅ Using Lam-e-Amar (لِ) for 3rd Person Commands.
✅ The special phonetic rule for Lam-e-Amar (e.g., فَلْيَعْبُدُوا).
✅ Interactive Quranic practice analyzing verses for active commands and prohibitions.
